ABC tales Welcome to probably the most exciting story site in the world. The site where you can can get published for free and read great stories and poems.  This popular showcase site is owned by the people that bring you the Big Issue.


ACappela Publishing: A publisher's site,  well worth a look.  Inside this site you'll be shown how to write it, how you can successfully market what you write to magazines and book publishers, and how you can choose the publishing option that's best for you.


A long story short LSS, is a writer's ezine, that published its first story in July of 2003.  Our goal was simple:  to publish the best work of writers  from beginners to established authors. When a writer puts pen to paper (or fingers to keyboard) and lets his creativity flow, in the back of his mind is the hope that one day it will be in print for the entire world to see.


Atlantic Monthly is an online magazine addressing contemporary issues, fiction, travel, food and humour.


Arete is a online literary magazine edited by Craig Raine.


Marine Corps Times is useful if you are ex-American forces and your not going to reveal the pentagons battle plan.


Blackwriters are interested in Afro/African writing and their bulletin board posts calls for submissions.


Beckham House  In their own description 'We are the Internet's leading source of multi-cultural and cutting-edge titles; leader in joint venture publishing, regular publication of works by new and emerging authors, reprints of classics, special reports, policy papers, and important public documents'. This unique book publishing company also offers joint venture self publishing project to promote the works of young and budding writers.  And a nice Website to go with it.


Blue Moon Review an online magazine, which claims to be "quietly publishing the internet.


Brick Magazine is a literary journal aimed at both readers and writers. Published twice yearly.


By-Line is a useful monthly magazine for writers.


Cheeky Maggot Theatreis a young, vibrant company run by two female graduates from RADA.  Their aim being to promote and produce innovative and fearless writing for the stage that is a break from the main stream. Giving the writer more say in how their work is produced and the actors a real chance to help with the fine tuning of a new script.  Check out their site for more details.


Chicken Soup for the Soul accepts online submissions of heart-warming stories and poems.


Conjunctions Literary Magazine accepts innovative fiction, poetry, criticism, drama, art, and interviews from both emerging and established writers; not accepting online submissions yet.


Cricket Online Review  has absolutely nothing to do with cricket as you would expect with a name like that.  What it does do is publish your poetry, fiction, drama, and mandala art semi-annually in January and July.  COR considers formal and experimental work so long as it is well crafted.   Guidelines are available online.

Defenestrationmagis an online literary magazine that publishes anything and everything in the humour genre.  It accepts submissions for poetry, fiction, non-fiction, art and essay. Please go to the website to view the full set of submission guidelines.


Eclectica is a web journal showcasing fiction, poetry, essays, creative non-fiction, drama, book and movie reviews, interviews and humour/satire. Also welcomes prose poems, rants, "heavy" opinions, works combining visual art and writing, electronic multimedia.


Dalkey Archive is a Non-profit website that challenges established literary journals.


Flame Books  is an ethical publisher of contemporary fiction by new authors. We offer high royalties (by selling physical books solely online) and fair contracts to authors and also make a donation to various creative projects after every sale on the site. The shopping section will go live in the autumn, when we publish the first titles, and are currently looking for the most exciting new authors.


Fish publishing.  Fish Publishing is an independent publishing company, founded in 1994, which aims to enable talented new writers to have their work published in book format. Its annual Short Story Prize has become an established event on the literary calendar, and winners of the prize have gone on to publish many widely-acclaimed works.

Frontier Trails Into Space. Online publication accepting SF articles and short stories.


Heat Magazine is a literary magazine in book form which publishes creative and interpretive writing by Australian and overseas authors.


Jacket Magazine is published three or four times a year on the Internet only.  Founded by John Tranter in 1997, to showcase lively poetry and prose. It is free.

January Magazine  An online magazine bringing its readers interviews with authors from around the world.


Gothic. A dark webzine featuring professionally written horror fiction, poetry, features, columns and reviews aimed at the Goth subculture. Editorials are frequently about publishing horror fiction, and it's one of the best paying markets on or off the internet for such fiction.

Litdotorg.  EPublishing and Writers Community - A portal for aspiring writers, reviews, interviews, forums, links, columns and more.


Literal Latte is a New York City-based literary magazine accepting unpublished stories, personal essays, plays or poems


Landfall publishes literary fiction and essays, poetry, extracts from work in progress, criticism and commentary on New Zealand its art and culture.


London Review of Books is dedicated to carrying on the tradition of the English essay.  Will accept some submissions.

McSweeneys An online offshoot of Timothy McSweeneys quarterly journal, created by nervous obscure people.  Published four times a year. Books and Journals can be purchased online.

Masthead  offers a selection of poems, essays and original works ranging across contemporary issues.


Mighty Organ An eclectic collection of journalistic observations, interests and private passions.


Mississipi Reviewis an online magazine posted quarterly. Each issue has a guest editor, and accept contributions.


Monsoon Magazine is an online magazine featuring South Asian writers and focus; essays, memoirs, fiction, poetry, translations, interviews, reviews, artwork, and photography.

Mr Beller's Neighbourhood is an interesting Website combining a map and a magazine. Stories, personal and photo essays about New York City published.


Mudlark: An Electronic Journal of Poetry & Poetics based at the Department of English and Foreign Languages University of North Florida.  Accepting high-quality work only; does not consider previously published pieces.

Multi-Storey is a online offshoot of Multistorey magazine. Site contains interviews, poems and stories.


nthposition  is an online magazine covering politics and opinion, travel writing, fiction and poetry, reviews and interviews.


OnCue Magazine. A online publication accepting unsolicited submissions of poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction, reviews.


Open City is a literary magazine, dedicated to publishing writers who may be considered too daring for mainstream publishing.


Paris Review  Online magazine emphasising writing as opposed to criticism.


Proofreading UK offers a wide range of proofreading and copyediting services. It is owned and operated by Laurence Jones, a philosophy graduate and former teacher who has worked extensively as a freelance proofreader for high-profile publishers such as Trafford, Writersworld and Pegasus.


Quality Women's Fiction.  A literary magazine publishing short fiction written by women. Aims to appeal to the more discerning female reader.


Salon Magazine  is an online magazine for an Internet media company. Sites updated daily include News, Politics, Arts, Entertainment and Books.  Check out their submission rules.


The Shallow End is a webzine that welcomes quality work of all genre.
